How to Choose an Engagement Ring

A diamond engagement ring is one of the most enchanting, magical surprises that a couple can share. It is a time that both people will remember forever.

It does, however, take a bit of planning. Especially if you want the proposal to remain a surprise.

To accomplish the perfect moment, you will (of course) need to know her ring size. There are some very easy solutions to finding her ring size while still keeping your sweet secret. If she regularly leaves her rings about, somewhere that you can secretly reach them and borrow them for a moment, use the opportunity to make an impression of one. Be sure that it is for the correct finger, then press it into a bar of soap, a piece of clay or - if you’re in a bind - even a piece of bread can create a reliable impression for measurement.

If you have the materials handy, and you prefer a different method, you can trace the inside of the ring with a pen and a piece of paper. The jeweler can use this tracing to determine what her actual ring size is.

A very simple method that is very useful if you intend to head to the jeweler that day, is to take one of her rings and push it down as far as it will go on one of your own fingers (it doesn’t have to be all the way…don’t get it stuck, just make sure it’s a snug fit).
