Choosing the Right Jeweler for You
Even when you are extremely informed about choosing a quality diamond for
your engagement ring, it is still critical to find a good, qualified
jeweler to help you when the time comes that you are buying an engagement
ring. A good jeweler is the first step to a smart diamond purchase.
Trust will be a vital characteristic that your jeweler must have from you,
so shop around, and ask your family and friends for recommendations. Your
jeweler should be knowledgeable about diamonds and help you feel
comfortable making this important purchase.
If you would like more information about the qualified jewelers in your
area, you may find it helpful to contact the Jewelers of America
(800-223-0673) or the American Gem Society (800-341-6214) for a
recommendation.
Look also for a jeweler who provides diamond certificates with the
purchase of their diamonds. Diamond certificates, more accurately known as
diamond grading reports, are commonly provided with the purchase of a
significant piece of diamond jewelry such as a diamond engagement ring.
These reports are prepared by independent, certified gemologists from
laboratories around the world and can help calculate the specific
characteristics of your diamonds (color, cut, clarity and carat weight,
for example). This essential when shopping for an engagement ring diamond!
